The checks a small business actually writes
The list is usually short and repetitive. The landlord of the shop. The wholesale supplier. The freelancer who will not take a card. A customer refund that should not go back to a card. A deposit to a vendor who still wants a check number on the invoice. OwnChecks is for that list. You are not buying a suite that also runs the store.
Each bank account you are allowed to sign on can live in the app: operating account, a payroll account if you insist on printing those checks yourself, a savings sweep you rarely touch. “Account” here means the bank account, not an OwnChecks login. There is no account to create. The 10-computer limit is about computers, tied to the purchase email, across all orders. It is not what the $50 price includes.
Payees stick around. The lumber yard’s name is typed once. The memo can carry an invoice number or a job name. The next check number increments. That is the whole writing loop. Then you print, on blank stock or on pre-printed stock.
A register, not a ledger
The register lists the checks this computer printed. Search, void, edit and print again, export CSV, backup, restore. Your checks, payees and register stay on your PC. Nothing is uploaded. Exporting CSV means you can open the list in a spreadsheet later. The app does not print checks from Excel, and it does not import a workbook as a batch. If that is the requirement, this is the wrong product. The longer description is check register software.
It also does not reconcile to the bank. You still mark the statement yourself, in whatever books you already keep. The on-screen note in the app says the register is not an official bank record. Treat it that way. A bookkeeper who wants a file can take the CSV. A bookkeeper who wants a live QuickBooks feed will not get one here.
Backup is the small-business habit that matters. The file is on one PC. If that disk dies and you never downloaded a backup, the register dies with it. Download a backup when you print a batch, and keep it somewhere you control. There is no cloud copy OwnChecks keeps for you.
Price and the second computer
$50 for your first computer. Add more for $15 each, up to 10 per buyer (per purchase email). Future versions are included for as long as we sell it.
A shop with one office PC is the normal case. A second PC, maybe at the owner’s house, is $15 once, not a seat on a monthly plan. The two computers do not share a live register. If both must print, you decide which file is the record. That is a limit, and it is why a five-person accounting team should look at something else.
Checkeeper at $14.99 a month is the cloud version of “several people, one list.” The Checkeeper alternative page does that math. VersaCheck’s network and QuickBooks editions are the other direction. OwnChecks does not claim either.
Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). Internet is needed to download and activate once.. The trial is free and prints VOID until you activate. Use it on the actual printer and the actual stock. Print a free test page to check alignment. Confirm acceptance with your bank before you rely on a check. A test page does not prove bank acceptance. OwnChecks is not affiliated with any bank, and it does not move money.
What a small business should not expect
No payroll tax filings. No 1099s. No positive pay upload. No “the bank approved this template” badge. No phone support. Email only. No promise that a teller will like the MICR line. You confirm that with the bank after a test page.
You should expect a straight check: your name, your logo if you added one, the payee, the amount in figures and words, a memo, a signature line, and either a MICR line you printed or the one that was already on the stock. You should expect the register to remember it. You should expect to pay $50 for the first computer and not see a monthly receipt for the software. Later versions are included for as long as we sell it. Your license includes all future versions of OwnChecks released while we continue to sell the product. We may stop selling or updating it at any time; your installed version keeps working.

Questions
Is this small-business accounting software?
No. It prints checks and keeps a register of those checks on the PC. It does not do payroll, invoices, inventory, or sales tax. It does not connect to QuickBooks.
Can two people in the shop share one copy?
$50 is the first computer. Each extra computer is $15. One order can include up to 9 extras, and a buyer tops out at 10 computers total per buyer (per purchase email), across all orders. There is no shared cloud login.
Can I put the business name and logo on the check?
Yes. The account holds the business name and address. You can add a logo and a signature. They stay on that PC.
Will my bank accept a check I print?
Print a free test page to check alignment. Confirm acceptance with your bank before you rely on a check. A test page does not prove bank acceptance. OwnChecks is not affiliated with any bank, and it does not move money.
