A VersaCheck alternative without a print-credit balance

What the October capture supports

VersaCheck X1 is sold as a named year edition. A newer edition is a separate purchase. That model is different from a license that includes later versions for as long as we sell it. Your license includes all future versions of OwnChecks released while we continue to sell the product. We may stop selling or updating it at any time; your installed version keeps working.

The Oct 2, 2026 capture of the Silver bundle showed $99.99, and that bundle is described as including one year of VersaCheck ONLINE. The Gold and Platinum pages from the same day showed 165 print credits included. They did not show the software’s dollar price. Figures of $199.99 and $79.99 appeared on those pages. This page does not treat them as the Gold or Platinum price, because the capture did not label them that way. Older dollar amounts that were not on this capture are left on the comparison table only where that table already marks what was not reconfirmed.

Print credits are the other half of the VersaCheck bill. The software can require a credit before a check prints, and more credits are sold separately. OwnChecks has no credit counter. You can print as many checks as the stock and the printer allow. That does not remove the bank’s rules. Print a free test page to check alignment. Confirm acceptance with your bank before you rely on a check. A test page does not prove bank acceptance. OwnChecks is not affiliated with any bank, and it does not move money.

What you give up by leaving VersaCheck

You give up the Mac edition. OwnChecks does not run on Mac or Linux. Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). Internet is needed to download and activate once.. If the bookkeeper’s computer is a Mac, stop here.

You give up the QuickBooks edition. This site does not claim that OwnChecks pulls payees from QuickBooks or pushes a register back. If that link is why you bought VersaCheck, an alternative that omits it is not an alternative.

You also give up whatever phone support VersaCheck includes in a given edition. Support for OwnChecks is email only, support@ownchecks.com. There is no free phone line. And you give up any mailing service. You print the check yourself.

What OwnChecks does on Windows

$50 for your first computer. Add more for $15 each, up to 10 per buyer (per purchase email). Future versions are included for as long as we sell it.

The app keeps the accounts you sign on and the payees you pay, on that PC. Blank stock gets a MICR line in the original E-13B font. Pre-printed stock uses a preset. You place a logo and a signature, adjust field positions, and run an alignment wizard. The register stores each check you print, and you can void, edit, export CSV, and back up the file. Your checks, payees and register stay on your PC. Nothing is uploaded.

The trial watermark says VOID / TRIAL until the license key is activated. Print the test page while that watermark is on, so a half-aligned check cannot be deposited by mistake. Then ask the bank. MICR toner is recommended for blank stock. A laser printer is recommended. Security paper is still your purchase; the software does not ship with a box of checks.

It needs the internet only to download it and to activate your key once. Your check data never leaves your PC. The key covers the computers that order paid for. It arrives on the confirmation page and by email after payment.

A fair reason to stay

Stay with VersaCheck if the yearly edition, the credit pack, and the validation connection are acceptable and you already rely on the Mac or QuickBooks edition. Switching software does not make a bank accept a check it would have rejected. It also does not move last year’s register into OwnChecks. You would start a new local file.

Switch if the thing you are tired of is the credit balance and the next edition, and your work is already on Windows. Read the Silver bundle price as the one this capture confirmed, and treat every other VersaCheck dollar figure as something to recheck on their store the day you buy. Prices move.
